Student Privacy Protection Act

Global Kids' Human Rights Activist Project (HRAP) spent their at William Cullen Bryant High School focusing a campaign on military recruitment in high schools and the No Child Left Behind Act. This is what they have to say:

"We are writing to express our serious concern about the military recruitment provision, section 9528, of the No Child Left Behind Act. Our schools are places for education, not recruitment. Forcing schools to turn over student information to recruiters or risk losing federal funds is a violation of the privacy of young people. The 'opt-out' policy is unclear and carried out irregularly from district to district. We believe it is important to protect the privacy and rights of youth."

The Sean Bell Case: Change of Venue?

April 12, 2007, 9:05 am
Sean Bell Case: Change of Venue?
By The Empire Zone

There continues to be talk of moving the trial in the Sean Bell case. Lawyers for the officers who have been charged were back in court yesterday.

Ellen Barry of The NY Times writes:

The hearing itself yesterday broke little new ground. Lawyers for the three officers pressed for the release of preliminary discovery they are entitled to by statute, including the grand jury minutes, coroner’s report and toxicology reports. At the next court date, May 14, they will establish a time frame for defense motions, which could include a motion to dismiss the indictments or separate the officers’ cases from one another. Defense lawyers could also request a change of venue or waive the right to a jury trial, which would place the case before Justice Arthur Cooperman of State Supreme Court in Queens.

On March 20th,2007 two cops who fired 42 out of the 50 shots at Sean Bell could face more than half a century behind bars after the indictment yesterday in the death of the unarmed groom. At the court house in queens two cops pleaded

If convicted of all charges, he faces 15 to 75 years behind bars, said a spokeswoman for the Queens District Attorney's Office.Charges against Isnora, 28, include first- and second-degree assault as well as reckless endangerment. He faces 12 to 57 years in prison if convicted. Cooper, 39, who fired four times, was charged with reckless endangerment after one of his bullets went through a window of an occupied AirTrain station across the street from the club. He faces up to a year in prison and/or a $1,000 fine. Officer Michael Carey, who fired three shots, and Officer Paul Headley, who fired one, weren't charged.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Oliver, Isnora and Cooper were suspended without pay, while Carey and Headley were place on modified duty. Their supervisor that night, Lt. 3 Detectives to Be Indicted by Grand Jury in Bell Case

The grand jury made its decision in the Sean Bell case today, but the DA's office has decided to wait until Monday to make a formal announcement. In spite of this, national media has already reported that there have been indictments of 3 of the 5 cops involved.

GATHER AT UNION SQUARE TOMORROW – 12NOON - Demand Justice for Bell, Benefield, Guzman & ALL OTHERS murdered and brutalized by the NYPD!

A Call to Bear Witness that Justice Be Served

The NYPD's murder of Sean Bell and attempted murders of Trent Benefield and Joseph Guzman are NOT isolated or random events. They represent the continued racial profiling of communities of color by the police and the lack of accountability for police misconduct and abuse.

PEOPLES' JUSTICE - COMMUNITY CONTROL! - POLICE ACCOUNTABILITY!

"Unheard Voices"

"Unheard Voices" is our latest project that continues to talk about police brutality and the many lives stolen at the hands of law enforcement agents and border patrol. "Unheard Voices" opens up talking about the police killing of Sean Bell in Jamaica, Queens on November 26, 2006 and then moves on talking about Timur Person, a 19 year old that was killed in the Bronx two weeks after the Bell shooting.

The beats and lyrics are original pieces made by Gustavo a.k.a Ginsumera that talk about police brutality and how it affects minorities.

This piece is very emotional considering the fact that we have witnessed such brutality by police officers in our communities!
